Jesus de la Helguera

I will begin with one artist from my own country. Jesus de la Helguera (1910-1971) was a Mexican painter and illustrator born in Mexico City who captured my attention for the first time with his images depicting the legend of de volcanoes where he shows, with an amazing realistic technique full of color, Popocatépetl carrying Iztaccíhuatl in his arms and another one kneeling next to her dead body.

His illustrations are full of traditional elements from the Mexican culture, his figures dressed in costumes from the Aztec times, the colonial period, the Spanish influences, the independence, etc.

You can check out more of his works on my Pinterest as well as many other artists that inspire me here: Magoro Graphic’s Pinterest
